Shadows | Wenatchee, WA | 2013
Waiting outside J.C. Penney’s, I watched leaf shadow creep eastward along a wall as the sun tip-toed west. This juncture of cosmic and earthbound (sun, tree, building) hinted that I, too, might project in shadowy ways only partly understood. If light casts shapes through leaves onto a blank wall, what “shadows” do I project when radiated by, say, cosmic rays or someone’s focused thoughts? Couldn’t I be passing through a person’s mental shade whenever I shiver on a hot summer day?
