Chimney

Chimney | Wenatchee, WA | 2015

A gray-haired senior citizen can use a smartphone to photograph almost anything — airports, refineries, military bases — and few people take notice. But put a real camera (DSLR) in that elder’s hands, and security is there in seconds. Even when the camera is aimed at an old chimney on a small-town college campus. Actually, the guard who raced up that day in his golf cart was courteous but bewildered at my choice of subject . “Life is so short,” he said. “Wouldn’t you rather photograph something beautiful?” I’ve thought about his comment for more than three years.
