Evening Trees | Fairfield Bay, AR | 2015
Part of what makes travel worthwhile are shared moments of awe, joy, frustration or daring. Well, sort of. My brother and I travel together regularly and have compiled a storehouse of less-than-spectacular but immensely satisfying memories. In particular: A quiet 10 minutes on a warm evening at the side of a gravel lane in central Arkansas. The slant of light, hum of stillness, bank of distant trees, mists rising as the sun fell — all of it contributed to a memory that repeatedly stirs our yearnings for the open road. We’re not sure why, but those few minutes of peace were the perfect cap to a long day for two guys driving backroads in a pickup truck.
