Trees in a woodlot near our college grow thin and spindly due to overcrowding and competition. Across the street, a huge evergreen stands alone on campus and thrives — its lush growth billowing from a thick, sturdy trunk. It has needed only sun, water and open space to be fully alive. Students sit at its base and lose themselves in thought.
