Exercise Ball | East Wenatchee, WA | 2017
I’m not even sure how an exercise ball works. Bounce it? Toss it? Roll it? It sits perfect and whole in the gym’s corner, cyclops eye unblinking, surrounded but unaffected by early-morning’s huffing, grunting, sweating. I curl two sets of 15 reps, my mind races with the day’s plans, leg-lift machine next, need some water, what’s for breakfast, walk dog, mow the grass. I can’t help but admire the ball’s total composure, complete in itself, its usefulness arising from the emptiness within — a tough workout I’m determined to try some day.
