She sighted down the walking stick to focus on a distant object. The crook’d staff pinpointed a future hiking destination — a saddle on a ridgetop across the Columbia River — and marked it in her mind as a distant but doable goal. Could a similar device improve my aim at personal targets? Perhaps new belt holes to measure weight loss. Or a laser pointer to help identify constellations. Or, heck, a regular ol’ stick to whack some sense into the world.
