We affect the world with our every action. Anger or kindness, curses or compliments, radiate outward to alter moods and experiences of the people around us. “Those with influence understand the power of relationships, connection, and engaging openly with the world,” says Kathy Caprino, writer for Forbes magazine. Sometimes we can easily see that influence — viral videos, for instance, and follow-up reactions — and sometimes it’s more subtle. We’ve all been in arguments where our self-imposed silence has quieted the angered party. Or felt an emotional softening while watching a mother cuddle her child. Or enjoyed a lift of spirits at the sight of ducks quacking happily on an urban lake.
