Toes in Repose

Toes in Repose | Houston, TX | July 2019

A human appendage isolated from the body can appear … well, curious. Bunched toes, for instance, have a bulbous beauty similar to mushrooms, forest burls or coral polyps. (The owner of the digits in this photo might disagree.) I often find myself staring at my veined hand under lamplight and wonder how a prehistoric fish fin evolved into this grasping claw. It doesn’t seem part of me, but rather the mitt of a critter far more primitive. But wait … that is me, you say?
