Artichoke

Artichoke | East Wenatchee, WA | April 2020

Poet Carl Sandburg had a pithy quote about being human: “Life is like an onion. You peel it one layer at a time, and sometimes you weep.” But I tend to think life is more like an artichoke: “Pluck and savor leaf after leaf until you find goodness at the center.” Or maybe life is like Brussels sprouts? “Take a bite, chew it slowly and — ptooie! — spit it into a napkin.”
